Instructional paraprofessionals are essential support staff who work alongside certified teachers to deliver lessons, manage classrooms, and provide targeted support to students. Their duties span academic reinforcement, student supervision, and behavioral management tailored to both general and special education settings.
Instructional Support
Small Group & 1-on-1 Help: Review and reinforce lessons introduced by the lead teacher to individual students or small groups.
Material Preparation: Create, modify, or adapt classroom materials, worksheets, and visual aids to meet varying student learning styles or IEP (Individualized Education Program) goals.
Test Monitoring: Administer, proctor, and grade tests or homework assignments under the teacher's guidance.
Technology Assistance: Help students operate computers, tablets, and specialized assistive technology.2.
Behavioral & Classroom Management
Behavior Monitoring: Implement behavior modification techniques and document student behavior to ensure a safe and positive environment.
Supervision: Monitor students during less structured times, such as lunch, recess, hallway transitions, or field trips.
Room Continuity: Maintain a clean, organized learning space and keep standard classroom discipline when the lead teacher is temporarily away.
Special Education & 504 Plan Support Specialized Assistance:
Guide students with disabilities in general or specialized classrooms, following detailed educational plans.
Data Collection: Track and record student progress toward specific learning goals or behavior targets.
Personal Care:
Assist students with mobility, transferring from wheelchairs, feeding, or personal hygiene routines when necessary.4. Administrative & Clerical Tasks
Record Keeping: Assist with administrative duties such as taking attendance, filing, and duplicating documents.
Communication: Relay important information between teachers, therapists, and parents as directed.
