An ESE teacher is responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities, ensuring they receive a free and appropriate public education in an inclusive environment.
Developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs): ESE teachers create and implement IEPs tailored to meet the unique needs of each student, collaborating with parents, administrators, and related service providers. They provide direct instruction using evidence-based strategies and accommodations to help students with disabilities access the curriculum effectively. ESE teachers work closely with general education teachers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure that students with disabilities are included in the general education environment and receive the necessary support. Regular assessment of student progress is essential. ESE teachers track and evaluate student performance, adjusting instruction as needed to meet educational goals. They implement positive behavior supports and maintain discipline in accordance with school policies, fostering a safe and supportive learning environment. Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in special education and legal requirements.

An ESE Teacher Learning Strategist is a specialized educator who works with students with identified disabilities, focusing on instructional design, professional development, and ensuring that teaching strategies align with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and other support plans. The ESE Teacher Learning Strategist supports teachers in implementing classroom objectives, lessons, and strategies that meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. The role blends instructional leadership with direct support, aiming to enhance both teacher and student outcomes. Provide training and supervision to teachers to ensure classroom practices are aligned with IEP goals and evidence-based practices. Assist in identifying, designing, and implementing appropriate educational resources, supports, and modified/alternative curriculum. Help teachers create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and conducive learning environment. Work with program directors and staff to determine eligible students, ensure appropriate services are delivered, and monitor progress. Partner with special education coordinators, therapists, and other staff to provide comprehensive support. Support staff in developing skills and applying best practices to improve instructional quality. Monitor student progress, adjust instruction as needed, and communicate with parents/guardians about student performance.
