Position Overview

What you will be doing
- Provides direct supervision of all implied and s p ecified tasks associat e d with the Public Safety M ission
- Identifies a nd recommends requirements for personnel staffin g , operational training, maintenance and administration of department equ i pment and vehicles and provides direct supervision for all c a mpus patrol operations and sp e cial activiti e s requiring Public Saf e ty support
- Develops, maintains and submits monthly and annual operational statistics
- Plans, sch e dules and coordinates Public Safety daily operations that includes Public Safety Officers' s h ift assignments covering a con t inuous 24- h our, 7-days per week continuous operation
- Screens a n d interviews candidates
- Develops programs to p rovide reasonable safety and security services t o students, faculty, staff and public o n College property
- Reviews all shift reports and operational activiti e s, checks a nd verifies daily log entries, vehicle trip tick e ts, overtime ro s ters, alarms and access control rep o rts
- Prepares and maintains Patrol Operations Orders, After Action Reports, and Less o ns Learned in support of Public Saf e ty operations and special activities
- Supervises the Depar t m ent's Dispatch and PBX operati o n, and pr o v ides operational and administrative oversight of mid and late night shifts, as well a s, the Campus Outreach Program.
- Provides first line revi e w and appropriate dist r ibution of all operation a l and Incid e nt Report activity that occurs thro u ghout the af t ernoon and evening shi f ts
- Develops, reviews and recomme n ds internal administrative policies and proce d ures that will improve the quality of services p r ovided by t he department and ensures compliance wi t h existing College and Department of Public Safe t y policies a n d procedur e s.
- Participates in identifying, developing and recommending operational needs based on the annual bud g et
- Assesses t h e need for s taff development and training, and forwards for approval, requests f o r training, or attendance at activities, designed to impr o v e officer professional kn ow ledge and skills in the areas of sa f ety and security
- Substitutes f or absent Public Safety Officers as needed
- Performs all other duties as assign e d by the Chief
- Associate's Degree, or an equival e nt combination of educ a tion, trai n in g , and experience, in the military, law enforcement, or the fi e ld of Safety and Securi ty , and a m i nimum of t h ree (3) years supervisory experience in related field
- Must be able to successfully complete a basic security-training course and provide certificate o f completion
- Must poss e ss a valid Florida State Unarmed Officer "D" lic e nse
- Must possess a valid Florida Driver License and have the ability operate College motorized vehicles sa f ely
- Must complete a Miami Dade Police background investigati o n prior to being hired
- Knowledge and unders t anding of College orga n ization, go a ls and objec t ives, and polici e s and procedures
- Knowledge in the use of two-way radio devices, tel e phonic co m m unication, and oth e r communication devices
- Knowledge of secu r ity/safety general pol i cies and proce d ures l o cks /l ocking sys t ems, lighti n g systems, alarms, CCTV, and regulations applic a ble to the use of such it em s
- Knowledge of the buildings and grounds patrolled and of t h e rules and regulations pertaining to the College campuses
- Strong interpersonal skills and exercises mature judgment w i th tact and diplomacy w h en dealing with the public
- Proficient in computer skills
- Ability to react promptly and correct l y in emerg e ncies
- Ability to r e ad and int e rpret documents s u ch a s safety ru l es and re g ulations a nd procedures manuals
- Ability to pl a n, assign, r e view, supervise and i n s p ect the work of others
- Ability to work long hou r s, travel in-county and cover long distances, if n ecessary
