Job Description:
The Department of Media Production, Management, and Technology (MPMT) in the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor with a demonstrated record of creative production to begin Fall 2027.
We seek a dynamic scholar/practitioner whose creative output advances storytelling through innovative media formats. We value candidates who push boundaries in media innovation and foster content that addresses contemporary social issues, cultural narratives, or technological disruptions.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in creative production while maintaining industry connections. Areas of expertise may include feature-length and short films, television series and specials, documentary filmmaking, emerging technologies such as augmented reality (AR) or virtual reality (VR), streaming series development and production, or hybrid formats that blend narrative with interactive elements. This role emphasizes a robust portfolio of creative work-such as films, documentaries, series, or interactive projects-alongside teaching and service contributions.
The MPMT department recognizes the critical importance of creative tenure tracks where artistic output is valued as highly as traditional scholarly research. Tenure evaluation will prioritize impactful creative scholarship, evidenced by honors and awards at nationally recognized film festivals, publications in creative outlets, peer-reviewed exhibitions, grants from bodies like the National Endowment for the Arts, or collaborations with industry leaders.
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in media production (for example, filmmaking techniques; camera and lens systems; documentary storytelling; VR/AR production; streaming content creation; mentoring students in hands-on projects; supervising capstone productions) and integrating emerging technologies into the curriculum. Candidates are expected to maintain an active agenda of original creative work, secure external funding, and disseminate outputs through festivals, broadcasts, online platforms, or academic conferences.
