Customs Entry Specialist

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This Customs Entry Specialist role will be working in a team environment and reporting to the Senior Trade Compliance Manager. The Customs Entry Specialist will perform high-volume customs clearance for all ports in the US and participate in a dedicated effort to continue to improve the in-house Customs team. The primary duty shall consist of the performance of office or non-manual work that is directly related to management policies or general business operations of the company and its customers. In addition to entry filing, this role will also focus on providing administrative support and service to the various ports of entry. The successful candidate will have strong leadership, communication, and critical thinking skills, as well as the ability to manage internal and external relationships. This position is a fully on-site role based in Fort Lauderdale, FL reporting to the Senior Manager, Trade Compliance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process Custom entry documentation and provide necessary documents to other government agencies including but not limited to, FDA, USDA
  • Responsible for daily entry filing of agricultural products for all ports of entry
  • Ensure that all entries are filed on time and freight delivered in a timely manner in accordance with company demands
  • Monitor and advise relative business units on the clearance of containers
  • Review documents post-entry for accuracy of information relating to clearance
  • Use analytical skills to assist departments in coming up with solutions and resolving problems
  • Audit commercial documents and parts to ensure all federal requirements are met along with other data
  • Collaborate with coworkers and other departments to ensure data integrity and compliance with SOPs
  • Other support duties

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sound understanding of US Customs and Harmonized Tariff Codes
  • Familiarity with running ACE reports and analyzing the data
  • Knowledge or coursework in Supply Chain, Logistics and or International Business a plus
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively
  • Must work with utmost honesty and integrity with attention to detail
  • Disciplined and professional attitude must be displayed at all times
  • Requires the exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance
  • Experience with government agencies and within the food industry
  • Minimum 4 years of experience and/or training as an entry writer or experience in customs broker operations
  • Report problem resolutions to Manager in a timely manner including suggestions for problem avoidance in the future
  • Measurable experience with Windows operating system and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Browser) along with strong IT skills
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, experience in taking initiative and making appropriate decisions. Planning and organizing skills essential.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

  • Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled office environment
  • Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at desk or computer terminal
  • Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday
  • Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties
