Responsibilities

The Digital Humanities Librarian serves as the advanced technical lead for CreateFSU, the Libraries' academic web-hosting service, providing expert consultation and technical support for faculty and student digital scholarship initiatives. This position collaborates closely with the DRS team, the AI and Data Lab, and campus partners to advance digital research methodologies, expand access to emerging technologies, and support the university's mission of research excellence and student success.

The successful candidate will help empower researchers and students to explore, create, and share new forms of scholarship while contributing to a vibrant and growing digital humanities community at FSU.

Support Digital Scholarship and Research Innovation
  • Serve as the advanced technical lead for CreateFSU and related web-hosting platforms, providing consultation, troubleshooting, and support for complex digital scholarship projects.
  • Assist faculty, graduate students, and researchers in developing and sustaining digital humanities projects using a variety of publishing and web-based platforms.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, tutorials, and user guides that support digital research and publishing initiatives.
Advance Student Learning and Research Skills
  • Collaborate with DRS colleagues to design and deliver workshops, instructional programming, and technical training through initiatives such as the Digital Research Incubator.
  • Provide instruction in digital research methods, programming, data analysis, and related technologies, helping students and researchers build practical skills that support academic and professional success.
  • Partner with faculty to integrate digital humanities tools, methodologies, and assignments into undergraduate and graduate curricula.
Build Campus Partnerships
  • Consult with faculty, students, and staff on digital research projects, scholarly communication, and emerging technologies.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with partner units, including the Research Computing Center and the Interdisciplinary Data Humanities Initiative.
  • Serve as a resource for campus digital scholarship efforts and contribute to strategic initiatives that enhance research capabilities across disciplines.
Contribute to Professional Excellence
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and scholarly activities related to digital humanities, digital scholarship, and academic librarianship.
  • Participate in library, university, and professional service activities.
  • Stay informed of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices that advance digital research and scholarship.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library and information science program; or Master's degree in a humanities discipline, digital humanities, or a closely related field with relevant technical experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently learn and apply new technologies, software applications, programming languages, and web-based tools.
  • Understanding of current research trends, emerging technologies, and methodological shifts in the digital humanities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to public service and user-centered support.
  • Strong collaborative mindset and adaptability in a fast-paced, evolving organizational environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience providing technical support, debugging, or administration for web-hosting platforms (e.g., WordPress, Reclaim Hosting).
  • Proficiency in programming languages common to humanistic research, such as Python or R.
  • Familiarity with web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for site customization and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and delivering technical instruction, workshops, or academic presentations.
  • Ph.D. in a humanities or related digital studies field.

Anticipated Salary Range

Starting at $60,000, commensurate with education and experience.
