WHAT YOU'LL DO
The Education and Career Lead Specialist serves as the primary contact for active and prospective students in assigned programs. This position collaborates with College leadership, faculty, staff, educational partners, employers, community organizations, and service providers to deliver student-centered services that promote student access, engagement, academic success, career development, and successful transition to employment or additional education. This position provides individualized guidance, coaching, and coordinated referrals to help students identify and address barriers and achieve their academic and career goals.
The VERTICAL Program at FSCJ is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Education and Career Lead Specialist to support college students with intellectual disabilities as they work toward academic success, career readiness, and employment.
About VERTICAL: VERTICAL is an inclusive career-readiness training program at Florida State College at Jacksonville designed for adult learners with intellectual disabilities. VERTICAL provides students with the opportunity to fully engage in college life while earning meaningful, industry-recognized credentials that prepare them for competitive employment in our community. VERTICAL helps you build job skills, increase your confidence, and prepare for long-term success at work.
Students participate in coursework and more than 100 hours of experiential learning, including paid internships, community-based instruction, campus involvement, career exploration, and other hands-on experiences.
This is not a traditional desk job.
We are looking for someone who enjoys building relationships with employers and creating meaningful employment opportunities for students with intellectual disabilities. This dynamic role combines student support, career development, and community engagement. The ideal candidate will help students overcome barriers, stay on track academically, develop workforce readiness skills, and connect with internships and employment opportunities that align with their goals and strengths.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED
At a minimum the selected candidate must have a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university and three (3) years of related experience.
Additionally, the preferred candidate will have three (3) years of experience in case management, career development, academic advising, student services, recruitment, employer engagement, workforce development, counseling, social services, or related fields. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be required based on assignment.

Employer & Community Engagement
- Build relationships with local employers and community organizations.
- Identify internship, job-shadowing, volunteer, and employment opportunities.
- Educate employers about the strengths and capabilities of individuals with intellectual disabilities.
- Support students and employers throughout the employment process to ensure successful outcomes.
- Work with Vocational Rehabilitation to ensure students are clients, have updated paperwork, and are ready to be employed. This includes working with Vocational Rehabilitation Providers to secure job opportunities for our students.
Student Success & Case Management
- Manage a caseload of students and provide individualized support.
- Help students identify and overcome academic, personal, and employment-related barriers.
- Monitor academic progress, attendance, and engagement.
- Develop and implement Individual Development Plans (IDPs) focused on academic, personal, and career goals.
- Serve as a liaison between students, families, faculty, and community partners.
- Connect students with resources and support services needed for success.
Career Development & Employment Preparation
- Provide career exploration, career planning, and workforce readiness coaching.
- Assist students with resume development, applications, interviewing skills, workplace communication, and professional behavior.
- Facilitate workshops and learning experiences that build confidence and employability skills.
- Prepare students for internships, work-based learning experiences, and competitive employment.
