High school guidance counselors play a central role in ensuring students' academic success, emotional wellbeing, and readiness for life after graduation.
To support students in academic planning, college and career readiness, and social-emotional development, including course selection, counseling, crisis intervention, and coordinating college applications and scholarships.
-Advise students on course selection, academic planning, and graduation requirements.
-Monitor academic performance and identify learning challenges.
-Help students develop effective study habits and time-management skills.
-Assist students in exploring career interests and pathways.
-Provide information on colleges, vocational programs, scholarships, and applications.
-Help students set realistic academic and career goals.
-Conduct individual and group counseling sessions addressing emotional, social, and behavioral issues.
-Facilitate conflict resolution and peer mediation.
-Support students dealing with stress, family issues, or personal difficulties.
-Work with teachers, administrators, parents, and mental health staff to support student needs.
-Participate in student support meetings and communicate regularly with families.
-Assist special education staff with IEP monitoring
-Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
-Analyze student data to identify trends and develop interventions.
-Coordinate recognition programs, scholarships, and academic awards.
