Security Officer

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Security Operations

  • Maintain a visible and proactive security presence throughout the hotel to deter potential security breaches and ensure a safe environment for guests and colleagues.
  • Conduct regular interior and exterior patrols-including hallways, public areas and, back-of-house, to identify and prevent potential safety or security issues.
  • Monitor security cameras, alarms, and other surveillance equipment to detect suspicious activity or unsafe conditions.
  • Control access to the hotel by verifying authorization and identifying individuals when necessary.
  • Inspect and maintain security equipment such as radios, surveillance systems, flashlights, first-aid supplies, and fire extinguishers; promptly report malfunctions.

Emergency & Incident Response

  • Respond promptly and effectively to all security incidents, including fire alarms, medical emergencies, disturbances, and other urgent situations.
  • Follow established emergency procedures, ensuring the safety of guests and employees during critical events.
  • Provide security escorts for guests and colleagues upon request or when deemed necessary for their safety.
  • Assist in crowd control during special events, high-traffic periods, or emergency evacuations.

Guest & Employee Support

  • Deliver excellent customer service by offering information, assistance, and reassurance in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Serve as a resource for safety concerns reported by guests or team members, escalating issues when necessary.
  • Collaborate with departments such as Front Desk, Housekeeping, Engineering, and Food & Beverage to support overall hotel operations and address safety-related matters.

Incident Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all daily activities, including patrol logs, security checks, and equipment inspections.
  • Document and investigate security incidents, disturbances, accidents, and guest complaints, ensuring reports are thorough and completed in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the management of the lost and found program, properly logging items and ensuring timely return to their rightful owners.

Training & Development

  • Participate in ongoing safety and security training programs, including emergency response, guest service, fire safety, CPR/first aid, and hotel security protocols.
  • Maintain awareness of potential security risks such as theft, trespassing, and fire hazards, and follow preventive measures accordingly.

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in security, law enforcement, military, or hospitality preferred.
  • Security training certification, guard card, or related credentials preferred.
  • Familiarity with emergency response procedures and local safety regulations is an asset.

Skills/Specialized Knowledge

  • Strong observation and situational awareness skills with the ability to identify safety risks quickly.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to maintain professionalism in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to remain calm, composed, and decisive during emergencies.
  • Basic knowledge of security systems, CCTV monitoring, alarms, and radio communication.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to interact positively with guests and staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time during patrols
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds, such as equipment or materials for security purposes.
  • Ability to react quickly and effectively to emergencies, including performing basic first aid if needed.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the hotel's operational needs.
