Responsibilities
  • Perform professional accounting, analysis, research, and reporting functions supporting the university's cash management, investment activities, banking operations, and reconciliation processes.
  • Maintain and support bank reconciliation systems, reports, and queries to ensure the accurate and timely reconciliation of university bank accounts and general ledger transactions.
  • Analyze and research outstanding banking and accounting transactions, prepare supporting documentation, and assist with resolving discrepancies in collaboration with management and technical teams.
  • Provide proof-of-payment documentation for sponsored research expenditures, including conducting payment research and maintaining records to support reimbursement requests.
  • Serve as a backup for critical cash management functions, including daily cash positioning, earnings allocation, internal loan oversight, wire transfers, fraud prevention activities, and banking operations.
  • Prepare and submit required external reports, including Qualified Public Depository and Unclaimed Property filings, while researching and recovering university-owned unclaimed property.
  • Support departmental projects, maintain business process documentation, prepare financial statement work papers and management reports, and contribute to system enhancements, testing, and operational continuity efforts.

Qualifications

Master's degree in accounting, finance, or similar field and two years of experience; or a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or similar field and four years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of related experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years.)

The successful candidate will be hired at the most appropriate level of Senior University Accountant (Systems) I - IV, based on their specific education and experience.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to compile, review, and reconcile data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Ability to perform accurately in a detail-oriented environment.
  • Ability to identify issues, analyze information, and implement effective solutions.
  • Ability to evaluate data, assess risks, and make sound decisions based on facts and analysis.
  • Knowledge of accounting systems, financial processes, and related practices.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple assignments while meeting deadlines.

Anticipated Salary Range

Commensurate with education and experience; minimum salary of $57,000.
