The Office of Student Finance, a unit within the Controller's Office, plays a critical role in supporting student success by ensuring the efficient and effective management of student accounts, refunds, billings, and tuition processes. Our office provides accurate financial services, improving student access, and maintaining compliance with university, state, and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

The Controller's Office offers career ladders for many of our positions, providing tenured employees with promotional opportunities within their job. The successful candidate will be hired at the most appropriate level of University Accounts Supervisor I through IV, based on their specific education and experience.

The University is seeking an experienced and student-focused University Accounts Supervisor to lead the team responsible for the day-to-day delivery of financial customer service, communications, and core student account processes. This role is ideal for a collaborative, service-oriented leader who thrives in a high-volume environment and is energized by developing staff, refining processes, and improving the student experience.

Serving as a frontline leader within the Office of Student Finance, the University Accounts Supervisor oversees a team of student-facing professionals who support students from varied populations. The position has direct operational responsibility for orientation programming, departmental communications, and the administration of various financial processes. The position plays a central role in ensuring that student financial services are accurate, accessible, and aligned with the university's commitment to student success.

What You'll Do

Lead a team of student success professionals:

You will lead a team of student account advisors and specialists responsible for providing comprehensive financial customer support to students and families. This includes setting priorities, providing coaching and performance feedback, mentoring team members, and fostering an atmosphere of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. You will identify opportunities for staff development and advancement and ensure the team is positioned to deliver high-quality service across a range of student populations.

Oversee core student account processes:

You will lead and oversee financial processes and related student account transactions, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with university, state, and federal requirements. You will collaborate closely with university partners to streamline processes, resolve complex issues and discrepancies, and monitor key performance indicators to assess effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.

Lead departmental communications and orientation:

You will lead the office's internal and external communication efforts, developing and implementing strategies that effectively engage students, families, and campus partners. This includes coordinating orientation sessions for new students, designing and delivering engaging presentations on financial options, payment methods, and student financial responsibilities. You will analyze communication effectiveness and use data and feedback to continuously enhance the office's outreach to students and stakeholders.

Promote financial literacy and student success:

You will drive initiatives that improve financial literacy among students and promote responsible financial practices, leveraging technology and other resources to reach a wide audience. Working closely with internal and external stakeholders, you will identify emerging trends and issues in student financial services and develop proactive solutions that support students from varied populations.

Strengthen policies, processes, and compliance:

You will stay current on regulatory changes and best practices in student financial services administration, ensuring that the team's work aligns with applicable federal and state regulations, university policies, and NACUBO best practices. You will support the Associate Bursar on advanced special projects, provide training and mentorship to staff and other campus partners, and contribute to the ongoing modernization of office processes and tools.

Qualifications

Master's degree and two years of experience; or a Bachelor's degree and four years of experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of experience. (Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to eight years.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience in student financial services, higher education, or comparable customer-facing environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to relate to and support students from varied populations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts to a broad range of audiences.
  • Experience designing and delivering presentations, orientation sessions, or training programs.
  • Working knowledge of student account processes such as write-offs, schedule cancellations, and payment plans.
  • Ability to evaluate processes and develop improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and student experience.
  • FSU Customer Service Certificate.

Anticipated Salary Range

The minimum salary for this position is $55,000, commensurate with experience and education.
