General Description of Duties
Under the direction of the Behavioral, Wellness, and Occupational Health Coordinator, this position serves as a trained subject matter expert in the area of holistic health and wellness by assisting with the development and implementation of programming, instruction, education, coaching, and encouraging members to adopt personal healthy lifestyle habits and behaviors. Expected tasks may include, but are not limited to, program administrative support, research of evidenced-based initiatives, identification and integration of appropriate resources and partnerships, implementation planning, and/or assistance in developing and facilitating training material that supports the expansion of wellness program efforts. With consideration of the unique stressors and challenges facing law enforcement today, this employee will assist with the implementation of existing projects, as well as present topics and initiatives to enhance holistic wellness in policing.
The Wellness Program Specialist promotes the Leon County Sheriff's Office vision, mission, and values of honesty, integrity, accountability, teamwork, trust, respect, and commitment to excellence.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess a background and strong interest in behavioral health, fitness, and nutrition and/or a social science field (psychology, social work, counseling, criminology, etc.). This candidate must be highly motivated and demonstrate occupational competence in policing or another first responder discipline. First responder experience or interest in working directly with the first responder community will both be considered. Candidate must possess strong organizational skills, be able to work independently, as well as demonstrate ability to collaborate with internal and external partners, to advance wellness program projects and initiatives.

Essential Duties
- Assists with the development, coordination, and presentation of wellness-related programming, including fitness, stress management, resiliency, financial fitness and healthy relationships.
- Assists the Wellness Coordinator with the planning and delivery of family programming and special events, including selecting activities, topics, vendors and engagement strategies.
- Develops and distributes wellness communications, including newsletters, announcements, bulletins, and promotional materials through appropriate media. May be required to conduct research and develop reports and publications for distribution.
- Gathers statistical information and prepares statistics in support of agency wellness activities, including participation metrics and utilzation data.
- Coordinates wellness activities and events such as stretch and decompress sessions, run club meetings, food truck events, blood drives, family engagement activities, retiree workshops, etc.
- Assists with large initiatives and events to include regional training opportunities, the Annual County Benefits and Wellness Fair, First Responder Wellness Week, and Bring your Child to Work Day each year.
- Assists with agency animal therapy or comfort K-9.
- Files and maintains confidential and sensitive information.
- Enters and maintains data in computer.
- Provides guidance and assistance to agency employees seeking referral to various wellness providers in the community.
- Completes special projects when necessary. Must use problem-solving skills and take independent action.
- Initiates, processes, prepares, records, and reviews routine, complex, and specialized paperwork, forms, reports, and confidential information related to employee wellness, ensuring completeness and accuracy of information; maintains all related records.
- Coordinate and collaborate with Human Resources and other agency units as required.
- Responds to telephone, text, e-mail, written, and in-person inquiries requiring knowledge of departmental policies and wellness program offerings.
- Maintains a variety of records, files, and information for department, ensuring compliance with applicable rules and guidelines, and audits files for completeness and accuracy.
- Organizes, monitors and maintains inventory, supplies, equipment, and other related items; initiates service and/or repairs of applicable items.
- Serves as a liaison with external organizations; represents the department at a variety of meetings, public events, training sessions, committees, and/or other related events.
- Assists with grant administration; may prepare and research cost estimates to assist with preparing budget recommendations.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Meet and maintain requirements of licensures and certifications as well as agency-required in-service training.
- Adhere to the standards and principles of the agency's core values and professionally represent the agency.

Eligibility Criteria
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S) in Health Sciences, Exercise Physiology, Psychology, or a closely related field AND one (1) year of related experience in areas such as fitness instruction, wellness, or health education.
- Master's Degree in Health Sciences, Exercise Physiology, Wellness, or a closely related field may substitute for relevant experience OR
- Equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- Must have a nationally recognized group fitness, personal training, health/fitness instructor, or nutritional counseling certification or be able to obtain certification within six (6) months of accepting the position.
- Must have a valid Florida drivers license and attend and successfully complete the agency sponsored Law Enforcement Vehicle Operations (LEVO) Training if assignment includes driving agency vehicle. Use of agency vehicle would require appropriate driving history and passing agency civilian driving course.
